#10 Slow a thief down
In Minnesota, you can be ticketed for leaving a running vehicle. Idling cars at convenience stores, gas stations or even in your own driveway are prime targets for theft.
Don't give a thief the cover of darkness. Park in a well lit area near pedestrian traffic. Always lock your car and always take your keys!
Did you know that 23% of auto thefts occur in unlocked vehicles? Reduce the chance of your vehicle becoming a statistic. Lock your doors, roll up your windows and close the sunroof.
Car thieves are lazy! When you make it hard to steal your vehicle, the thief will move on to another victim. Remember, lock your car, take your keys and park in well lit areas. You'll prevent a theft!
NEVER leave valuable documents such as bank statements, credit card numbers or any personal information in your car. Not only will a thief steal your vehicle, they'll still your identity too! Lock it or lose it!
Do you suspect vehicle theft activity in your area? Call 1-800-359-HEAT and cash in on a crook! There are rewards up to $5,000!
What is a Chop Shop? It's a place where stolen vehicles are taken and stripped for parts. If you suspect a chop shop is operating in your area, call 1-800-359-HEAT and report it! The car you save could be yours!
It takes an auto thief as little as 7 seconds to break into a vehicle and less than 1 minute to drive it away. Anti-theft devices such as sterring wheel locks will slow down a thief. Our best advice? Lock your car and take your keys.
Just because you have an older car doesn't mean you're not a target for vehicle theft. A vehicle's parts are worth two to three times the value of the car. Be smart when you park. Lock your car. Take your keys.
Time is the car thief's enemy. The longer it takes to steal a car the more likely the thief will be noticed and caught. Following all the ten rules will slow a thief down and will help prevent a theft.
